Welcome to Amalgamated Sound

THE BEGINNING was summer of '66. It's not clear exactly how the band was started or who were the original members. This is one account. Dan Graham, a fifteen year old guitarist from Indiana moved to Spring Lake, Michigan. At fifteen, in those days, he was considered an accomplished guitar player. The Band Dan then met Randy Shinn, who was a drummer in the Spring Lake High School Band. Together, they found Randy's neighborhood pal {Strawberry Point} Phil Slater, who was taking guitar lessons at the Robbins Road Music Center. Phil in turn encouraged fellow friend and choir member, Bobby Hall, to join with them as their vocalist. The search was on for a bass player. He would be found just a few blocks away in the Strawberry Point neighborhood. His name is Randy Regelin. This garage band was formed and the music began!!!

The Band started playing at high school social functions and an occasional event know as the "Battle of the Bands." At the time, there were several neighborhood garage bands and they all thought they were the best. The Almalgamated Sound did win in several of the "Battles" that they entered. In June of '67 high school ended for Phil and Bobby and college started. In September 1967, Bobby left the band and a new and different time began for the Amalgamated Sound.

REUNITED

In December 2007 a former classmate approached Phil Slater regarding reuniting the Amalgamated Sound to perform at special one time event-a Spring Lake High School reunion for the classes 1965-1970. That was when the seed was planted. Slater contacted the former band members and received positive responses from Randy Shinn, Dan Graham and Craig Lozo. The Band Randy Regelin (bass guitar) was living in California and unavailable so Fred Elkins on bass guitar and Andy Bogner on lead guitar(both from the 60's Spring Lake Rock band The Underground) were invited to participate. Dan expanded his skills to also play keyboards. The new repertoire included over 50 songs-mainly 60's dance material, but also some Blues, Country and Rockabilly!

A series of rehearsals led to booking gigs in advance of the reunion. A feature article about the Amalgamated Sound in the Muskegon Chronicle (milive.com) helped fuel interest about the band. The band was very well received everywhere they played. In July of 2009 The Amalgamated Sound played at the SLHS reunion. It was a great evening for all!! By then the band's skills and sound had surpassed everyone's expectations. And the band was in demand for other venues. Future gigs were booked.

GOING FORWARD

In the Fall of 2009 Dan and Randy tendered their resignations. The remaining members decided to continue on with 2 new members-Bruce Bowditch on drums and Rick Sierecki on keyboards. At this point the Amalgamated Sound is booked into the Summer of 2010 and accepting engagements.
